A fast-casual eatery dubbed Pling plans to bring Montrose a compact, quick-serve dumpling destination.

Pling, now under construction at 223 Westheimer Road, is on track to debut by the end of the year. Unlike many of the city’s dumpling establishments that focus on traditional Chinese flavors, the menu at Pling is influenced by dishes more commonly found at Korean barbecue restaurants. “It will be a totally different style of dumplings,” says Pling’s Jun Hyun, in an email to Eater.

At Pling, the bite-sized dumplings will be stuffed with proteins like ground beef in sweet galbi marinade, and buldak, a fiery Korean chicken dish that’s often smothered in cheese. Whole shrimp dumplings will be on offer, along with crunchy, deep-fried cheese katsu dumplings and other Korean-influenced dishes. Uber-trendy brown sugar boba tea will be on the menu.

“I want to create a restaurant where everyone can access easily and feel like they can drop by for a quick bite or when you want to grab a drink with your friends,” he says.
