Southern Favorite Treebeards Will Put Down Roots In Memorial

Cafeteria-style Creole fare is en route to Memorial

Longtime local chain Treebeards will plant its first roots outside of Downtown Houston, reports Houston Chronicle. Treebeards Bunker Hill is shooting for a summer opening at 9655 Katy Freeway, a rep for the 42-year-old brand tells the pub. This will be its sixth locale and first outside of the loop. Along with its familiar lineup of Southern and Creole staples like stuffed pork chops, jambalaya, red beans and rice and shrimp etouffee, the new 140-seat address plans to bring new dinner options and apps to the table.

Less burgers for Houston

Space City’s obsession with burgers apparently couldn’t save the lion’s share of BuffBurger, which just closed two of its three locations, reports Culture Map. The casualties sit in Westchase and Montrose, which both opened in 2018. Its original five-year-old location in Spring Branch (1014 Wirt Road) will keep flipping patties as usual. Couple Sara and Paul “Buff” Burden tell the pub they are “reevaluating [BuffBurger’s] long-term growth strategy and seeking new partners and opportunities.” The burger brand piles 44 Farms beef and Pure Luck Farms goat cheese between housemade buns. The restaurant, ranked No. 84 on CultureMap’s list of Houston’s Top 100 restaurants, also serves chicken, ahi tuna, and falafel.

Main Squeeze Juice spills into Fulshear

Houston is getting another Main Squeeze Juice Co., this time in Fulshear in early February. Other stores sit in Atascocita, Webster, Katy, Conroe, Sugar Land, and The Woodlands. The seventh area location (6230 FM 1463 Road) comes from Fulshear resident Justin LeBleu, who dropped a career in oil and gas after a health scare limited him to a smoothie-only lifestyle. The gluten-free and vegan menu stars cold-pressed juices and superfood smoothies, along with juice cleanse programs, shots, and acai bowls. Founded in 2016, the New Orleans-based franchise plans to plant a whopping 50 stores across the Southeast over the next several years. There’s a dozen now.
