Ahmedabad: Cruise from Mumbai arrives in Diu on its maiden journey

As many as 385 travelers from Mumbai reached the Diu coast on Thursday morning in the maiden trip undertaken by Jalesh cruise, run by Messrs Karnika. With the first trip to Diu, the services of Jalesh by Messrs Karnika started from Mumbai to Diu from November 14.

Jalesh is India’s first multi-destination cruise, which began in April this year, and has stops at ports in Mumbai, Goa, Diu, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Muscat.

The cruise is expected to carry over 1,600 passengers and has a total of 837 cabins.

Tourism department officials expect to run at least two trips a month from Mumbai to Diu for tourists on the cruise. “The cruise reached around 8 am and all passengers were brought to Diu Jeti island using a small boat, where they were welcomed by the officials. The tourists then spent an entire day in Diu, travelling to popular sites, including Somnath Temple in Gir Somnath. Then later, around 6pm, the cruise set sail for Mumbai,” an official of the Diu administration said.

To ease the journey from Diu to Mumbai and Diu to Daman, officials have started an initiative under which one Air India flight will take off every day from Mumbai to Diu.
