Bangalore news August 2 highlights: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has decided to tin more services between MG Road and Byappanahalli in the light of metro unavailability during the weekend. BMTC will run extra buses during late hours of August 3 (Saturday) and early hours of August 4 (Sunday) as metro services will be hit along this stretch due to regular maintenance works.
Meanwhile, the prime suspect of the multi-crore I Monetary Advisory (IMA) scam, Mohammed Mansoor Khan, has been remanded in judicial custody after he was produced before a court in Bangalore on Thursday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Khan will bear the registry number 7305 at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, according to police officials. This took place after he was produced before the Principal City Civil and Sessions Court Judge Shivashankar B Amarannavar who remanded him in judicial custody.
*As the drought condition in the state is severe, CM directed the officials and DC’s to take up relief works like drinking water, fodder supply, employment guarantee schemes on a war footing.
*To encourage fodder growing in farmers’ lands, CM directed the officials to encourage fodder production in farms and as an incentive. "I have suggested that officials to purchase fodder grown by farmers at a cost of Rs. 4000/- a ton. Now it is Rs. 3000/- per ton," CM Yediyurappa said.
*Water conservation is the prime need of the hour, and CM directed officials to take up check dam construction in a massive way in the state.
*Steps have been taken to take up fill water at 10 barrages across Krishna river from Allamatti and Narayanapur Dams to meet water scarcity.
*CM also suggested officials to streamline food supply under Anna Bhagya scheme and check irregularities.
*Efforts are being made to streamline the administrative machinery and initiate stern action against officials who do not properly respond to public grievances.
*The DCs and CEOs are told to visit every taluka at least once in 15 days and attend to public grievances.
*The CM has directed senior officers including Chief Secretary to visit districts.
*Chief Secretary will visit districts once in a month and secretaries will visit districts at least two times in a month and review progress and inspect works.
*As many as 43.75 lakh declarations of farmers have been sent to Government of India under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. Out of this Rs. 634.50 Crore has been credited to 31.72 lakh eligible farmers’ accounts directly with Rs. 6000/- each. Government of Karnataka will soon release Rs. 2000 as the first installment to the accounts of these beneficiaries.
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner and Additional Director General of Police Alok Kumar on Friday was transferred with immediate effect. Bhaskar Rao, IPS , serving as the Additional Director General of Police, Karnataka State Reserve Police, Bengaluru will be replacing Kumar. Owing to public demand, the Union Ministry of Railways will soon begin a train service on the Hubbali - Chennai route. India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials say that from June 1 to August 1, Bengaluru Urban district has recorded 28% deficit rainfall while Bengaluru Rural saw a 31% deficit. Bengaluru city received 171 mm rainfall from June 1 to August 1 as against the normal of 200 mm. As against the normal of 472 mm rainfall, Karnataka received 406 mm average rainfall.
V G Siddhartha, the founder of the Cafe Coffee Day chain who was found dead on the banks of a river near Mangaluru on Wednesday, had set out for Mumbai in the early 1980s with Rs 7.5 lakh he had borrowed from his coffee planter father. By 1985, the youth from Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district-owned more than 10,000 acres of coffee farms in Malnad region. Of this, only 500 acres were his ancestral property.
