The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) Wednesday donated Rs 1 crore to CM's Distress Relief Fund in the wake of several districts in the state adversely affected due to incessant rains, floods, and landslides. Former CM and senior Congress leader Siddarmaiah Wednesday criticised chief minister Yediyurappa for delaying the release of relief funds for flood-hit districts. During his third day of visit to inundated areas in Bagalkot, he said, "It has been more than 15 days since floods lashed the state and no single penny has reached the state from the Centre. According to me, there has been a loss of almost Rs 1 lakh crore in the state. What is the CM doing," he questioned.
Bangalore Central MP PC Mohan will visit the National Military Memorial in the city to review work in progress there. The installation work of a 78-feet tall jumbo monolith (Veeragallu) structure bearing the names of martyred soldiers who fought for the country is progressing there. The Karnataka High Court has directed the BBMP to hold a complete census of trees in Bengaluru immediately.
The divisional bench headed by Chief Justice Abhay S Oka directed the BBMP to do so while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by environmentalist TD Dattatreya and the Bangalore Environment Trust.
“Starting from Tuesday, the tree census shall be commenced within two weeks, besides setting up a committee of experts in a week’s time,” the bench directed.
Speaking at the first Cabinet meeting after its formation, Chief Minister Yediyurappa said, “The portfolios and the responsibility of the districts would be finalised shortly. Meanwhile, the ministers must immediately commence a study on the woes caused by the inundation and submit a report involving the relief measures before the next cabinet meeting.”

The change of leadership in Karnataka BJP was pending since February when Yediyurappa turned 76 — the BJP has a policy of 75 years as the cut-off age for its executive leaders. Yediyurappa is believed to have been given the concession to be the Karnataka CM on account of the mass support he brings to the BJP from the dominant Lingayat community.
Kateel, a member of the Bunt community from coastal Karnataka, has his roots in the RSS in Mangalore but does not enjoy a mass support base like Yediyurappa. Read more
