Karnataka Bengaluru Coronavirus June 6 Highlights: The Karnataka government is set to conduct a foundation stone laying ceremony of the construction of a mammoth 108-ft bronze statue of Bengaluru founder Kempegowda near the cityâs international airport on June 27.
The Kempegowda Development Authority on Friday fixed the date foundation stone laying ceremony and it was announced by the Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan, who is also the vice-president of the Kempegowda Development Authority.
âJune 27 marks the 511st anniversary of Bengaluru founder Kempegowda. The statue is estimated to cost Rs. 66 crore and the model of the statue is also ready and it will be finalised by the chief minister,â Aswath Narayan said.
The Karnataka government has roped in sculptors Ram V Sutar and Anil R Sutar to design the Kempegowda statue. Ram V Sutar also designed the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.
According to Aswath Narayan, a land of 23-acre in front of the Kempegowda International Airport has been identified for the statue and the Bengaluru International Airport Ltd has also given clearance for the work to construct the statue.
Nearly three months after he was named as the new Karnataka Congress President, Senior Congress leader D K Shivakumar will assume office on June 14 at the party office in Bengaluru. He has written to Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa seeking permission to hold the programme.
The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has developed a mobile app ‘Bengaluru Megha Sandesha’ for official information on rainfall and weather updates in Bengaluru.
On Saturday, Revenue Minister R Ashoka launched the app. "In order to disseminate the rainfall and flood forecast and location specific dynamic weather information directly to the public, KSNDMC has developed a mobile application, Bengaluru Megha Sandesha," said a KSNDMC spokesperson in a statement.
With elections due for four Rajya Sabha seats and 12 MLC seats vacant, political activities within the Karnataka BJP unit have become hectic. Delhi-based leaders of the BJP said the rumbling in the state unit is all about filling these vacancies and an expected expansion in the B S Yediyurappa cabinet.
Out of the four Rajya Sabha seats going to polls on June 19, the BJP is sure of winning two and the Congress one. Sources said if Deve Gowda does not emerge as a common candidate for the Congress and JD (S), the BJP could field its candidate for the fourth seats, creating a possibility of political realignment in the state.

In the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Canadian International School in the city organised a 'Drive-Thru' event followed a digital graduation ceremony.
With a graduating class of 67, students, parents, teachers, and others took part in the digital event in which special awards were also given away apart from their diplomas. After two-and-half months of lockdown, Hubballi-Dharwad Bus Rapid Transit System’s (HD-BRTS) ‘Chigari’ buses started operations between the twin cities on Friday.
According to HD-BRTS for time being, the Chigari buses will provide service from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. HD-BRTS Divisional Controller Vivekanand Vishwadnya said, "as a trial base, 40 Chigari buses were started on Friday, and based on the feedback from people, we will increase the number of AC buses plying between the twin cities."
HD-BRTS is South India’s only dedicated public transport corridor.
Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan lauded the efforts of the Chamarajanagar district which has not reported a single positive case of Covid-19 till date.
According to Chamarajanagar Deputy Commissioner M R Ravi, Harsh Vardhan called him over phone on Thursday and lauded the efforts of the district administration in ensuring the district remained free from Covid-19.
"Please convey my greetings to your team and the people of the district,” Harsh Vardhan said, the deputy commissioner added.
The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation(BMTC) has arranged free transport for SSLC and PUC students to examination centres or transit points.
BMTC said that SSLC and PUC students can travel to exam centres by its buses free. They have to only show their admission or exam hall tickets or smartcard passes. The decision was taken following a meeting by the education minister, transport minister and concerned authorities.
The SSLC exams will be held between June 25 and July 4 and the PUC exam (English language) which was postponed due to the Covid19 lockdown, is set to be held on June 18.
The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (KSTDC) will commence tours in the State from June 10, after the State government announced that treks, safaris and jungle resorts can begin operations from June 8.
As part of precautionary measures, the tourist vehicles will be completely sanitised, gloves, masks and sanitisers will be made mandatory for the guides, drivers and cleaners and the crew will be thermally screened. Further, the vehicles will be operated with 50 per cent occupancy.
From Saturday, the Karnataka government will test persons who have returned from Maharashtra to the State for COVID-19. Till date, only those displaying symptoms while returning from Maharashutra were tested for COVID-19 in the State.
Central Crime Branch police have filed a charge-sheet against gangster Ravi Pujari who is in the custody of Bengaluru police after being extradited from Senegal. According to Bengaluru Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil, the charge-sheet pertains to two cases – Shabnam Developers shootout case at Tilak Nagar in Bengaluru and money extortion from a builder in Whitefield.
“Ravi Pujari is involved in many cases, we are investigating other cases too and file the charge sheets. Patil said.
Earlier this year, CCB police arrested Gangster Ravi Pujari (51), in the west African country of Senegal, was brought to Bengaluru. In India, Pujari has over 200 criminal cases against him, including of murder, extortion and other crimes.
