Bangalore Karnataka Floods Live News Updates:Ā While incessant rains and floods in Karnataka continue over the second week, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNMDC), has predicted scattered light to moderate rains are likely in north interior Karnataka till August 15.
The Belagavi district is most likely to receive scattered to fairly widespread with moderate rain during the same timeframe. At the same time, coastal and Malnad regions are likely to receive widespread with moderate rains, and isolated places in these areas are most likely to receive heavy rains till August 14, as per the forecast.
However, rainfall has reduced over north interior Karnataka and coastal and Malnad region. Water has started to recede in many districts and flood situation has improved over time.Ā As on Sunday 6 pm, the death toll due to the ongoing natural calamity crossed 40, while 1,168 relief camps now accommodate more than 3.27 lakh people.
Incessant rains and floods, which have left a major portion of Karnataka inundated since the first week of August, has led to the state-run Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) drowning in losses as well, with over 2,000 trips cancelled. Read more
KSRTC announced that several services, including inter-state buses, would resume on Monday owing to a reduction in rainfall and receding floodwater levels in various parts of the state.
All major bus services, linking Bengaluru and Mysuru to the coastal parts of Karnataka, resumed operations by Monday afternoon while trips on Bengaluru-Mangaluru route had partially resumed on Sunday afternoon.
About 25 buses will leave from Bengaluru throughout day and night starting Monday. However, buses to Maharashtra will also start operations, except for the ones via Kohlapur. Read more
After deluge in several districts in Karnataka, the Bruhath Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is gearing up to tackle rains in the city.
Senior officials of the civic body on Monday met to review the precautionary measures taken to prevent flooding and other untoward incidents after rain. After the meeting, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said jurisdictional officials will be held accountable for untoward incidents and the compensation to victims will be given deducted from the salaries of the concerned officials.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa visited flood-hit areas in Mangaluru and took stock of the situation.

BBMP Commissioner informed that as many as 4,443 confirmed dengue cases have been reported in Bengaluru since January this year. “We have identified 61 high-risk wards in the city where dengue mosquitoes are breeding and an awareness drive has been carried out in this areas.,” Manjunath Prasad said.
Following the flood in several districts, the Karnataka health and family department has distributed halogen tablets (that contain chlorine) in all the affected areas to prevent water-borne diseases. There are chances of an outbreak of gastro enteritis, viral hepatitis, malaria, snake bites and water-borne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, leptospirosis in flood-affected areas, said health and family department officials.
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has announced resuming operations to Kerala from Bangalore. According to KSRTC officials, 25 services to various destinations in Kerala will be operating today.

As per information from the state government, Belagavi district continues to be worst-hit as 12 deaths have been recorded from there so far. Kodagu has seen the worse then as of now, with at least seven deaths reported, while the death toll in Uttara Kannada is four.
While 14 people are still to be traced, the number of taluks that are flood-hit has risen to 80 across 17 districts of the state. As many as 1,168 relief camps now accommodate more than 3.27 lakh people while 525 animal deaths have been recorded till 6 pm on Sunday.
The Mysuru-Nanjanagudu road is still blocked due to flooding apart from the Mysuru-Suttur road, KSRTC officials confirmed. Meanwhile, vehicles held up at Shimoga is cleared and will be operated via Thirthalli-Mandagadde towards Udupi. KSRTC's multi-axle Volvo bus held up at Kushalnagar was cleared from the spot this morning.
As part of intensifying rescue operations, more teams from the Indian Army, NDRF, SDRF, and others joined in on Sunday. While 19 teams of NDRF personnel are on duty, 17 columns of Indian Army, 2 teams of SDRF, 5 teams of Indian Coast Guard and 2 teams of the Indian Navy are at work. While 5 helicopters - four from the Indian Air Force and one from the Navy have been deployed, a team from Garuda Force is leading operations in Kodagu district.
Several landslides have been reported from Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamgaluru and Uttara Kannada districts due to heavy rains. At the same time, connectivity in 136 major roads (NH, SH and Major district roads) have been disrupted due to floods and landslides.
Bangalore's local civic body, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has prepared a list of 182 vulnerable locations in storm water drains in the city. The authorities have decided to install sensors at some of these locations, identified as 'sensitive' ones, to send flooding alerts to the officials.
A red alert has been given as heavy rains in coastal, central, south Karnataka districts are predicted by the India Meteorological Department till August 15. The districts that are expected to receive most rains include Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagluru, Hassan, Shivamogga, Kodagu and Malnad regions. "Heavy rain also likely to occur in Belagavi, Dharwad and Haveri districts across the state's northwest region," the weatherman says.
As water levels came down after rains took a break from isolated parts in north Karnataka, the Shimogga -Thirthahalli route via Mandagadde Road cleared, according to KSRTC officials. The overflow of Kabini water has blocked traffic on the Mysore- Hullahalli, Nanjangud.
