After a fresh case of the Nipah virus was confirmed in central Ernakulam district in Kerala on Tuesday, Karnataka health department has put on high alert eight districts in the state.
The health department has identified Chamrajanagar, Mysuru, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru as the vulnerable districts and has alerted the district administration and hospitals to submit a compulsory report on the daily outbreak regarding Nipah.

Police in Bangalore are now turning to books to keep themselves âintellectually fitâ, thanks to a novel idea of starting libraries at police stations.
The mastermind behind the move, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bengaluru South) K Annamalai, told Indianexpress.com that such a development is important to ensure police officials also grow to become good human beings. âPrimarily, the idea came through as a stress-buster to police officials while at their respective stations itself. It is important that each one of them becomes a well-grounded human in order to become capable of handling the societyâs problems,â he says.

Shikha tells Indianexpress.com that notifications are being sent at present to consumers who have signed up to the BESCOM Mithra smartphone application. “Frequent notifications are sent to consumers via the app whenever there is a power cut expected in their respective areas due to in the event of maintenance work in feeders or for tree trimming,” she says. This is being done to ensure an automated SMS notification system works efficiently to provide the right information to the concerned consumer in the light of power cuts.

Bengaluru Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun has issued a circular to BBMP hospitals and primary health care centres across 198 wards to strengthen surveillance in view of detection of Nipah virus in Bengaluru. The BBMP has also issued a public notice informing citizens on symptoms and steps to be taken in the event of diagnosis. "Treatment is available in BBMP hospitals," reads the notice.
