HC to Haryana govt: Make police vacate Safidon Fort in 3 weeks

The court on Monday was told by the state that it has got the Rania fort in Sirsa vacated in January, while the Ballabhgarh Fort is not under its occupation.

The direction was passed by the division bench of Chief Justice Krishna Murari and Arun Palli during the hearing of a PIL on the matter.

THE PUNJAB and Haryana High Court on Monday directed the Haryana government to get the Safidon Fort in Jind district vacated from the occupation of Safidon Police Station within three weeks and also sought a road map from the state for conducting survey of the historical buildings.

The direction was passed by the division bench of Chief Justice Krishna Murari and Arun Palli during the hearing of a PIL on the matter. The court has also directed the state to file a detailed affidavit within three weeks on the outcome of the survey of various ancient buildings conducted by its archaeological department from declaring them as protected monuments.

Earlier, the High Court in September 2018 had issued directions to the government to ensure the police stations operating from the ancient buildings are vacated so that they may be considered for declaring as protected monuments.

The PIL has been filed by Yashpal Gulia, a retired Sub Divisional Engineer of PWD Haryana, through advocate Hari Chand Arora, seeking directions to Haryana government and Archaeological Survey of India, to survey and inspect all the ancient monuments, archaeological sites and remains located within Haryana, and to take steps for their preservation and maintenance as protected monuments.
