Sahitya Akademi, India's national academy of letters, today announced a list of 22 winners for the Bal Sahitya Puraskar and 23 recipients for the Yuva Puraskar for this year.

A woman, Subhashini, was stabbed to death by Adimoola Ramakrishnan, the driver of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker, P Dhanapal at Anakaputhur in Chennai on Thursday night. According to police reports, the victim got into a fight with Dhanapal last night after the latter prevented Subhashini and her husband from switching on the motor since it was allegedly empty.
In the ensuing fight, Dhanapal took out a knife and stabbed Subhashini under the chin, following which she was rushed to the hospital. The victim later succumbed to her injuries. The police arrested Adimoola Ramakrishnan today.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) announced that a heat wave will continue to persist in Chennai, its neighbouring districts of Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram and other northern districts in Tamil Nadu today. The RMC added that these places would experience at least 3C higher temperature than normal.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi slammed the Thoothukudi Corporation today for not taking any measures towards solving the drinking water problems that are faced by the people in Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu.
She said that the taxes had been increased and people were paying money and purchasing drinking water owing to the ongoing water crisis and added that until the Thoothukudi Corporation addressed these issues and took measures to solve problems, they (people) would continue with their protests.
Actor Bhagyaraj addressed the media after his party, Swami Sankardas Ani met actor Kamal Haasan earlier today in Chennai and said that Kamal Haasan had asked to be invited to the inauguration of the Nadigar Sangam building once construction was completed. Southern Railway has sent a letter to its station staff and train operation controllers instructing them to use only English or Hindi while communicating officially.
The letter issued on Wednesday said the authorities should avoid the use of regional languages while communicating officially. "The communication between the Divisional Control Office and the Station Master should be either in English or Hindi and the use of regional language should be avoided to prevent either side not understanding what is being said," it said.

He won the 2016 assembly election defeating the AIADMK candidate R Velu. Due to his death, Vikravandi constituency will face by-polls along with Nanguneri in Tamil Nadu.
