A woman judge was allegedly assaulted by a group of puja committee members during an immersion procession in Chandannagar Sunday, police said.
The incident took place when Chandrani Chakraborty, third judicial magistrate of Chandannagar Court, was travelling in her official car with her husband and two security guards.
The car got stuck in traffic on G T Road during an immersion procession as part of Jagadhatri Puja, police sources said.
“When the security guards tried to clear the way, those part of the procession allegedly abused them,” said an official.
In a complaint filed with Chandannagar police, Chandrani, who is also the additional chief judicial magistrate, alleged that some members of Mankundu Notunpara Puja Committee tried to drag her out of the car.
The situation was brought under control after police reached the spot.
“We have received a complaint from the judge. The investigation is on. If anyone is found guilty, the law will take its own course,” said DC (Headquarters) Vaibhav Tiwari.
An eyewitness, on condition of anonymity, said that the people who were a part of the immersion procession were drunk.
