Three men from Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir were detained from a Sector 34 based hotel in Chandigarh, following intelligence inputs that they abruptly changed their travel route from Ludhiana to Chandigarh, in the wee hours on Tuesday.
The suspects are being interrogated by a joint team of crime branch and Operations Cell, officials said. A white color i20 car bearing Jammu and Kashmir registration number was also seized from their possession.
Sources said, “Three men started from Pulwama for Ludhiana but later changed their direction towards Chandigarh. It alerted the intelligence agencies.”
Chandigarh police spokesman, DSP Charanjit Singh, said, “Three men of district Pulwama are being questioned. All belong to the same village. The antecedents of two of the men were verified and nothing adverse was found against them. Third person’s antecedents are being verified. We have not found any objectionable thing from their possession.”
A senior police officer said, “During interrogation, they claimed that they came to Chandigarh for an outing and were scheduled to return back after spending two days. The three are class Class 12 passed. Two of them are helping their fathers in their small scale family business and the third man is unemployed.”
Sources said the car in which they were travelling belongs to the parents of one of them.
