Weather forecast Today India HIGHLIGHTS: Heavy rains lashed over several parts of Kerala and north Konkan Sunday. Due to strong wind convergence occurring over Kerala and adjoining areas of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the present weather condition is likely to continue for the next three days causing widespread rainfall.
Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR witnessed heavy rains today which inundated several parts of the city and caused severe traffic snarls. There was a slight drop in temperature to 27 degrees Celcius. Rajasthan too experienced rains with thundershowers and lightning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Sunday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal and south interior Karnataka, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, south Konkan and Goa and heavy rainfall at isolated places over North Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Telangana, south Gujarat, Marathawada, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
Also, rough to very rough sea conditions (with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph) are likely to prevail over southeast Bay of Bengal and southwest and the west-central Arabian Sea. Squally weather is predicted along and off Maharashtra coast as a result of which fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas.
The Monsoon trough at mean sea level lies to the south of its normal position. However, it is likely to shift northwards and deepen from 24th July, causing enhanced rainfall activity over north and Central India.

Four people died and three others were missing as heavy rains continued to lash Kerala on Sunday. Among the missing are two fishermen who had gone fishing in the sea. The body of 55-year-old Sahayaraju, one of the missing fishermen, was found in Kollam district, PTI quoted the coastal police as saying. “A search is on for the remaining two missing fishermen. A Coast Guard ship and two boats of Marine Enforcement have been pressed into service,” an official told PTI. The body of Manesh Sebastian, who went missing in the Kottayam’s Meenachil river, was recovered by the Navy. Read more here
Punjab Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria Sunday reviewed the ongoing relief work in areas of Patiala and Sangrur districts affected by heavy rains. Sarkaria visited Phulad and Khanauri in Sangrur district and Badshahpur and Sirkapra villages in Patiala district and reviewed the ongoing relief work there.
The water resources minister said the state government will find a permanent solution to deal with the flood-like situation which arises every year due to the overflowing of Ghaggar river. "Chief Minister Amarinder Singh led Punjab government is making sincere and concrete efforts to find a permanent solution to the problem," he said in an official statement.

According to the meteorological department, several parts of Uttar Pradesh received rain. Ballia recorded 33.2 mm of rain, Basti 32 mm, Varanasi 15.4 mm, Sultanpur 12.2 mm, Hardoi 9.0 mm and Agra 6.4 mm. The department also said rain/thundershower is "very likely" to occur at isolated places over the state on July 22. Rain/thundershower is predicted in isolated places in eastern and western Uttar Pradesh on July 23 and most places in western and eastern UP on July 24. (PTI)
IMD issues red alert in Kasargod, Idukki, Kozhikode and Kannur districts till July 23 and orange alert for Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram districts till July 25.
Four persons have died and three, including two fishermen from Tamil Nadu, are missing as rains continued to lash Kerala, with a red alert being sounded in Kasargod, Idukki, Kozhikode and Kannur districts of the state till July 23. According to sources of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), hundreds of houses from coastal areas have been evacuated. Twenty-six labourers sustained burn injuries in a lightning strike in Rajasthan's Pali district on Sunday, officials said. The victims were working in Panota village when the lightning struck in the morning, they said. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, from where 18 have been discharged and eight women are still admitted, police said. (PTI)

A flood-like situation due to torrential rains prevailed in some places in Punjab Saturday with the Ghaggar river inundating standing crops, including cotton and paddy, as Army and NDRF teams worked to save lives and properties. The Ghaggar river overflowed in Patiala, Moga, Mansa, Sangrur, Ferozepur, Faridkot and Bathinda following heavy torrential rainfall, officials said. Residents along the river have been alerted, they said. Many villagers started moving to safer places with their belongings and livestock. Heavy rains have lashed several parts of Kerala since the last 48 hours with Kannur breaking the record for the highest precipitation in the last 10 years for the month of July, Skymet Weather stated Saturday. Since Friday, within a span of 21 hours, the city has recorded 199 mm of rainfall, which is the highest in the last 10 years for the month of July. The record rainfall previously stood at 180.2 mm and was recorded on July 18, 2009. Kerala is witnessing heavy rains accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, taking cognisance of which, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Kozhikode, Idukki, Wayanad, Malappuram, and Kannur after it predicted over 20 cm rainfall between July 19-22.
Light to moderate rains occurred at many places in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday even as the meteorological department issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain next week. The Shimla Met centre has issued yellow warning for heavy rain in plains, low and middle hills of the state on July 24, the official said. He said monsoon rains are predicted till July 26. The Met office issues colour-coded warnings to alert the public ahead of severe or hazardous weather which has the potential to cause “damage, widespread disruption and/or danger to life.” Yellow is the least dangerous of all the weather warnings.
