Princess of Thailand to visit Unakoti in Tripura on November 27

“The Thai Princess will come to India on November 25. She will reach Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Airport here on November 27 morning. She will be given a rousing welcome and will be welcomed by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb along with girls and boys of indigenous communities who will be dressed in traditional attire,” Mishra informed.

Talking about the arrangements being made to host the Princess, he said that the state government is preparing to include queen pineapple, carambola and cashew nuts in her menu. All three fruits are grown in Tripura.

During her stay, the Thai Princess is scheduled to visit the site of ancient rock carvings in the northern district of Unakoti. The rock carvings on Raghunandan Hills in Unakoti depict sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses and date back to the 8th Century.

Myth has it that at least one crore gods including Lord Shiva halted at the hill. Shiva left the place without the gods, making it ‘one less than a crore’ or ‘Unakoti’, which is how the rock carvings came to be known later.

The Princess had earlier expressed an interest in visiting three northeast Indian states – Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram during November. Thailand Ambassador to India Chutintorn Gongsakdi reportedly communicated with the Tripura Chief Minister’s Office in September about her visit.

An awarded Sanskrit scholar, she received the Padma Bhushan in 2017.
