Weather forecast Today Highlights: Cyclone Maha is very likely to intensify to 'Very Severe Cyclonic Storm' over the east-central Arabian sea during the next 48 hours.

Weather forecast Today, Cyclone Maha Highlights: Cyclone Maha lies centered over the east-central Arabian Sea, about 550 km south-southwest of Veraval (Gujarat) and 570 km west-northwest of Goa. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards till November 4 and recurve east-northeastwards towards south Gujarat coast thereafter. It is very likely to intensify into a ‘Very Severe Cyclonic Storm’ over the east-central Arabian sea during the next 48 hours.

The IMD has predicted thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and hail at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir and lightning at some places in Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Gale winds, speed reaching 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph, prevails over east-central Arabian Sea. Squally wind, speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph, prevails over west-central Arabian Sea and is likely to decrease becoming 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph over west-central and adjoining southwest Arabian Sea during next 12 hours. Sea condition likely to be high over eastcentral Arabian Sea and rough to very rough over westcentral Arabian Sea. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.

Delhi woke up to another smog-filled morning on Saturday with the air quality remaining in the ‘severe’ category, according to data by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). As per SAFAR data, Delhi’s air pollution rose to 46 per cent on Friday due to crop burning. Yesterday, the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) had declared a public health emergency in the Delhi-NCR region and banned construction activity till November 5. Delhi is also rolling out the odd-even scheme to cut vehicular pollution from Monday.

Maharashtra: Heavy rain lead to flood-like situation in Nashik

Incessant rains in Nashik district have led to flood-like situation severely affecting the normal life.

"The torrential rains continue in Manmad town of Nashik district. It is reported that 350 people have migrated due to heavy rainfall. people of Idgah, Tucker Mohalla and Ambedkar Chowk in Manmad have been hit hard by the floods," ANI quoted District Magistrate of Nashik Suraj Mandra as saying.

Cyclone Maha: Heavy rain predicted in Gujarat

In the wake of Cyclone Maha, the southern parts of Gujarat is likely to receive heavy rainfalls from next week, said IMD.

On Saturday, Cyclone Maha lay centered about 540 km south-southwest of Veraval (Gujarat) and 550 km south-southwest of Diu, as per the weather forecasting agency.

Light rains likely in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi on November 7

Scattered rainfall in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi is likely on November 7 and 8 under the influence of Cyclone Maha and a fresh western disturbance, the weather office said.  This rainfall, however light, will be significant in terms of reducing the effect of stubble burning, and will wash away pollutants, they said. Cyclone Maha to bring rain over north Maharashtra

Cyclone Maha is initially expected to trace similar path that of cyclone Kyarr that had formed off Ratnagiri coast on October 25. The system had brought light to moderate rain over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada during this period. The cyclonic system formed in the Arabian Sea on October 31 and it will lead to overcast conditions and clouding during the next week over western coast of the state. Read more here

Gujarat: Cyclone Maha may bring heavy rain from Nov 6

AFTER KYARR, the state is set to expect poor weather again from November 6-8. Severe cyclonic storm Maha over the Arabian Sea, is likely to recurve towards Gujarat coast on the morning of November 6 and bring heavy rainfall. The IMD forecast issued Friday stated, “Maha is very likely to move north-westwards during the next 24 hours, west-northwestwards during November 2-4 and recurve east-northeastwards towards south Gujarat coast, thereafter.” Read more here

Delhi remained blanketed under the pungent haze for the fourth consecutive day on Friday with major pollutants PM 2.5 at 500 and PM 10 at 500 both in ‘severe’ category in Lodhi Road area, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal distributed masks to schoolchildren on Friday even as Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) declared a public health emergency in the Delhi-NCR region.

Even the India versus Bangladesh T20 fixture to be played on Sunday is under a haze though the players didn’t complain, but Bangladesh coach Russell Domingo did admit that the situation was “far from ideal” for an international fixture. The National Capital has been in the grip of a severe pollution crisis since last week, with the air quality index breaching the ‘severe’ mark of 400 to touch 484 Friday.

Cyclone Maha spared Lakshwadeep islands and moved across without touching land, news agency PTI reported. The Kerala Disaster Management Authority said cyclone Maha was not a threat to Kerala anymore. Also, the Met department withdrew all rain-related alerts that it had issued except the warning issued to fishermen.
