One shutter of Kallarkutty Dam in the high range Idukki district has already been opened in the wake of heavy downpour in the catchment areas, ANI reported.
The weather agency is hopeful that the second spell of the monsoon, which started Wednesday, will bring in heavy rains to the state, which had recorded 46 per cent deficiency till July 15. In Kasargod, which is also under alert, the district collector has declared a holiday for all the educational institutes, including professional colleges.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Bihar and northeast India showed little improvement on Friday as over 1.15 crore people remained affected. The death toll due to flood and rain-related incidents neared 150. The southwest monsoon advanced into the remaining parts of west Rajasthan, thereby covering the entire country on Friday. Most regions in northern India, except Delhi, recorded light to moderate rainfall.
The Defence Ministry PRO said that entire assets of Coast Guard have been moved from Trivandrum to locate the missing fishing boats from Vizhinjam. 2 ships are currently involved in the search and rescue mission. The sea condition is very rough. Dornier aircraft, which is being operated from Kochi, is also monitoring the area to locate the boats. There is no security or location device on the missing fishing boats. The boats went out to the sea despite frequent alerts. The Coast Guard ship named Samar, located around 20-30 nautical miles off Kollam, is monitoring the conditions.
The Met officials have forcast rain at isolated places in eastern and western Uttar Pradesh on July 22 and 23. This comes as a relief for the state which has been reeling under high temperature since last week.
On Saturday, Banda was the hottest place in the state with temperature touching 39 degree celsius.

Himachal Pradesh received light to moderate rains in some parts Saturday as the Met department issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rains next week. Yellow is the least dangerous of all the weather warnings.
Till Saturday, Mashobra in Shimla district has received the highest 26 mm rain followed by Rohru (21 mm) , Kotkhai (15 mm), Sujanpur Tihra (12 mm), Karsog (10 mm), Dharamshala (7 mm), Shimla and Manali 6 mm each, Nahan (5 mm) and Kufri (4 mm), the weatherman said.

After a week-long dry spell, Nashik city and its adjoining areas received heavy rains on Friday.
The downpour, coupled with thunderstorms, lashed the city from Friday evening and there were some good spells on Saturday as well, officials said.
In the 24 hours ending 8 am on Saturday, Baglan tehsil in the district recorded the highest rainfall of 100 mm, followed by Sinnar (57 mm), Devla (46.2 mm), Nashik (33.2 mm), Malegaon (28 mm), Igatpuri (21 mm) and Trimbakeshwar tehsil (18 mm), the officials said.

Two people died due to drowning as heavy rains continue to lash parts of Kerala Saturday. Four others, including three fishermen from Tamil Nadu, are reportedly missing.
Meanwhile, due to a minor landslide at Konnathady village, people have been advised against travelling in hilly areas.
In the northernmost Kasaragod district where red alert has been issued, Kudule recorded 30.6 cm rainfall and Hosdurg 27.7 cm in 24 hours till 8:30 am Saturday.
A holiday has been declared for educational institutions, including professional college in the district.
Heavy rains lashed parts of Delhi today.
Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over north Goa and south Goa districts over the next four days, IMD, Goa said.
Sixteen of Rajasthan's 33 districts have received normal rainfall in the monsoon so far, officials said on Saturday. Five districts have received excess rainfall while 10 recorded a deficit and two scanty rains, according to the water resources department here. The normal rainfall (19 per cent to -19 per cent) for the period of June 1 to July 19 in Rajasthan is 165.30 mm and the desert state has recorded 193.66 mm rains during the period this year.
According to IMD, Kerala, red alert has been sounded at Wayanad, Idukki, Kozhikode and Kasargod. Besides this, it noted that the rainfall deficiency in the state has reduced from 48% to 42%.
In Maharashtra, a 70-year-old woman died, while three more sustained injuries in a lightning strike at Alampur village in Buldhana district. The woman was working on a farm in the village when it started raining. She and some other farm labourers took shelter in a nearby hut, when the lightning struck it, police said.
The maximum temperatures in Haryana and Punjab hovered below the normal limits on Friday. Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two states, received light rains and recorded a maximum of 31.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal limits. The MeT office has forecast light to moderate rains at isolated places in the two states for Saturday.
Rajasthan received rainfall ranging from 4 to 10 cm in the past 24 hours, a Met official said on Friday. Udaipurwati recorded 10 cm rainfall, followed by 7 cm each in Bhuhana and Nawa, he said. Barmer was the hottest place in the state with a high of 40.6 degrees Celsius, followed by 40.2 degrees in Jaisalmer, 38.8 degrees in Jodhpur, 37.6 degrees in Bikaner and 35.8 degrees Celsius in Jaipur. The meteorological department has forecast light to moderate rainfall in parts of the desert state in the next 24 hours.
On Friday, the Safdarjung Observatory in the national capital recorded a high of 36.4 degrees Celsius, two notches more than normal, and a low of 25 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels oscillated between 53 and 93 per cent. Overcast skies and light rains are likely on Saturday. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi's air quality was recorded in the "moderate" category with an air quality index of 145.
The mercury and humidity levels rose in the national capital in the absence of rains yesterday. The weatherman said not much rain is likely in the city in the next two to three days. However, the maximum temperature is going to remain below the 36-degree Celsius mark due to "cloudy conditions and thundery developments". The national capital had witnessed rains for three days this week that had resulted in a drop in temperatures and pollution levels.
In Assam, 11 people were killed, taking the toll due to floods to 47, while 48.87 lakh people were affected in 27 of the 33 districts of the state, a report by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said. In its bulletin, the ASDMA said 48,87,443 people of 3,705 villages are reeling under the impact of the flood. A total of 1.79 lakh hectare agricultural land was inundated and around 90 per cent of rhino habitats - the Kaziranga National Park and the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary - are underwater. Of the 11 deaths, five were reported from Dhubri district and three each from Barpeta and Morigaon.
Seven children, aged 15 years or below, and a 26-year-old man were killed, while as many were injured, in a lightning strike in Bihar's Nawada district on Friday afternoon, PTI reported. According to Sub Divisional Officer, Sadar, Nawada, Anu Kumar, the children were residents of Dhanpur Musahari village who had taken shelter under a tree while it was raining. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar issued a statement, expressing grief over the tragedy and announcing an ex-gratia of Rs four lakh to the next of the kin of each deceased.
The toll in Bihar floods climbed to 92 on Friday, with 14 deaths reported from different marooned areas of the state, PTI reported. Relief and rehabilitation measures were running in full swing with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launching a drive under which over Rs 180 crore were disbursed among affected people through direct cash transfer. According to the state disaster management department, the death toll included the 27 fatalities in Sitamarhi, the district worst affected by the flash floods which hit the state in the wake of torrential rainfall in catchment areas of Nepal last week. Altogether 66.76 lakh people, spread over 12 districts, have been hit by the calamity, the department said.
On the missing fishermen, coastal police told PTI that the rough sea was making it difficult to conduct search operations, but that their boats had already been deployed. Thiruvananthapuram District Collector K Gopalakrishnan met them, assured all help to bring back safely the four fishers from Vizhinjam and said helicopters were being used to trace them. In Kollam, three fishermen went missing after their boat overturned in the choppy waters. Two others in the boat, who swam to safety, were rescued and have been hospitalised.
Seven fishermen went missing and relief camps were opened in two districts as heavy rains lashed several parts of Kerala for the second day on Friday. The missing fishermen had put out to sea from nearby Vizhinjam and Shaktikulnagara in Kollam in separate boats. While Coastal police sources said a search operation was launched, local people protested, saying no efforts were being taken to trace them.
Meanwhile, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter Scale hit Palghar in Maharashtra today at 9:17 am, ANI reported.
In the wake of the incessant rains, the IMD has issued a red alert in Kasargod district for today and an orange alert for Idukki, Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad districts.
