Ronnie Harrison hosts 100 kids for first youth football camp in Tallahassee

The Jacksonville Jaguars may have some time away from the practice field until July, but that doesn’t mean they still can’t give to the Florida community. That was exactly the mindset safety Ronnie Harrison took on this summer as he hosted his first-ever youth camp in his hometown of Tallahassee, Fla. Saturday, which was free for those who registered.

In all, there was a strong turnout of over 100 kids which goes to show fans the amount of love Tallahassee has for Harrison and the Jags. Harrison also was able to get a few other notable football players to help him out, too, in Florida State defensive end Janarius Robinson, Arizona Cardinal safety Deionte Thompson and Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Garrett McGhin.

As a player who spent his youth in Tallahassee, Harrison told the Tallahassee Democrat that it was important for him to give the kids of his hometown the opportunity to meet him because such an experience can go a long way.

“There’s not a lot of stuff out here like this in Tallahassee. That’s why I’m trying to do this,” Harrison said Saturday. “It’s shocking how excited the kids get over me. I’m just a regular person. When they run up on me, it’s a lot of love and I love it. I want them to come out, have fun and get to be around some NFL players. These kids don’t get this every day. To be around them means a lot to them and me.”

Harrison started in eight games during his rookie campaign in 2018 and proved to be a solid successor to Barry Church in the process. He was able to accumulate 32 tackles, three pass breakups, and an interception and will look to pick up where he left off in 2019.
