The Natrona County School District on Tuesday announced its policies and procedures for limiting hours or closing schools for inclement weather or natural disasters.

The district primarily considers adverse weather conditions and the safe transportation of students and staff, according to a news release.

If those issues appear imminent, the district's public relations office will send communications by text and phone at 5:30 a.m., as well as notifying news media. It also will post updates on its social media sites.

The district has several closure options:

Full Closure – No schools, departments, and programs will open. The district makes this decision when current and future weather conditions are extremely hazardous and are not expected to improve.

No buses will operate. No students will report to school and all after-school activities will be canceled. Only designated employees will report to work.

Late Start – All schools will open at a designated time. The district makes this decision when weather conditions are expected to improve greatly after the start of school.

Bus route times will be altered. Employees will report to work at normal times, or when conditions permit, but before the designated start times.

Early Dismissal – All schools will release students early at a designated time. The district makes this decision when inclement weather or other conditions are expected to deteriorate before the end of school, and it is necessary for the safe transportation of students.

Bus route times will be altered. All after-school activities will be canceled. Employees will be allowed to leave as directed by their administrator.

Full or partial implementation of the above options – Many schools are not located in the Casper area. Hazardous conditions may exist at some schools and not others. The district may exercise one of the above options for a particular school, while others continue their normal operations.

The district added that the primary responsibility in protecting a child’s health and school attendance always resides with the parent or guardian.
