An Idaho man has been charged with first-degree murder after the remains of a woman, who was reported missing in 2015, were found in western Wyoming.

Ronald Todd Weerheim was arrested on suspicion of first-degree felony murder, second-degree murder and kidnapping, according to a statement Tuesday from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

Joann Hakes was last seen alive Jan. 3, 2015 near Thayne. Her remains were found on a piece of property near Etna on May 18, and have since been positively identified, the attorney's office said.

Law enforcement officers searched an apartment in Chubbuck, Idaho, and arrested Weerheim on Tuesday. He is currently being held at the Bannock County, Idaho Detention Center awaiting extradition to Lincoln County, Wyoming.
