Gresham officer shoots, kills man in Southeast Portland

A Gresham police officer shot and killed a man in Southeast Portland late Sunday night, authorities said.

At around 9:35 p.m., Gresham police said one of their officers and several Portland Police Bureau officers responded to a reported disturbance in the 12400 block of Southeast Kelly Street. The caller said there was a white man in the area making threats.

When officers arrived on scene, the Gresham officer fired shots, striking and killing a man, police said. The Portland officers witnessed the shooting and did not use deadly force.

The Gresham Police Department said their officers were providing mutual aid to Portland Sunday night while the Portland Police Bureau responded to several large demonstration.

Detectives with the Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Division, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, and the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office are investigating the incident.

Police said they'll provide more information once the man is identified and his next of kin are notified.

Officials said this shooting was not related to the demonstrations in Portland.
