PORTLAND, Ore - For more than two months, the Justice Center in Downtown Portland was the main focus of protests. Thousands would gather there throughout the day. During the night, the gatherings were often deemed unlawful assemblies and riots. Especially when Federal Officers were brought to Portland.

Things Downtown have been changing recently. Since Federal Officers left, protests Downtown have been peaceful.

On Saturday afternoon, there were around a dozen people protesting downtown. Most were surrounding a new art display where the Elk statue used to stand. There is a new Elk there now surrounded by drawings, signs and call for change.

Protesters who still come Downtown to protest have also noticed a change in the people who continue to come to the Justice Center.

"The most concerning thing for me is there is less people showing up. I’m not sure if that’s because the protests are now here and also on the east side as well that’s the main difference," explained Casey Donovan, a Downtown Protester. "It's a different atmosphere now. During the night people typically have candles out and things like that. People come here and it's a memorial it's like a shrine and people come here to reflect and read the messages to inform themselves and have discussions. I think that is what peaceful protesting is all about."

While the demonstrations Downtown have changed in the last week, protests are being held in other parts of the city.

Portland Police arrested 24 people outside of the Kelly building on Friday.
