An Arkansas elementary school has a new student, and he's a very good boy.

KATV content partner Region 8 News reports that two-year-old Ozzy is now the resident K9 at Brookland Elementary.

The mayor of Brookland, his council, the school superintendent, and the school board came together and decided that students would benefit from having a dog at the school.

School Resource Officer Sergeant Keith Prescott handles Ozzy every day. Ozzy is trained to sniff out narcotics, track missing or runaway children by their scent and he can also diffuse situations with students under stress.

The school has plenty of treats and toys for Ozzy, and Prescott says the kids love him. He will be at school every day.

“They loved him, and he loved them,” said Prescott. “There was a young girl that he ran up to them and she just lit up so that’s where I think it will benefit the most.”
