The Kansas City Chiefs have an explosive offense, so the UDFA wide receivers trying to make the roster have their work cut out for them. Can Aleva Hifo make enough of an impression?

As per usual, Andy Reid has found a BYU prospect to add to his roster. This time around it’s Aleva Hifo, who will have an uphill battle trying to make it onto the Kansas City Chiefs‘ 55-man roster.

Hifo initially was going to play cornerback for BYU, but he was transitioned to wide receiver instead. He had 42 receptions for 483 yards and three touchdowns during his senior year with the Cougars and also did damage on the ground, totaling two rushing touchdowns that year as well.

The Chiefs have a strong group at wide receiver, not having lost anyone this offseason. Tyreek Hill is the leader of the pack with Sammy Watkins serving as a strong WR2, followed by Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson. Byron Pringle serves as a nice fifth option, but he’s not a lock to make the roster.

That opens two or three spots for players competing to make the 55-man roster and obviously Aleva Hifo is looking to fill one of those vacant spots. Hifo is yet another UDFA receiver competing for a spot on either the roster or practice squad, but he’s shown he has the versatility to do several things on the football field.

Where he should get some looks is on special teams, as Hifo returned kickoffs during his BYU career. This is something the Chiefs should look into for sure.

As of now, the Chiefs have Hardman and Hill as their return men and while Hill is still really good at it, the chances of him getting injured increase the more he’s on the field. He’s most needed as the starting wide receiver and that’s why finding another player to return kicks and/or punts is vital. Hifo could be that guy.

The Chiefs took a chance on another undrafted player out of BYU named Daniel Sorensen and he’s turned out to be a nice player in Kansas City. While the two play different positions, it’s clear that Reid props up guys from his alma mater and that could definitely help Hifo. He’s probably not going to be anything more than a practice squad player, but if he can make it the roster, he’ll be given every chance to prove himself.

What do you think Aleva Hifo can provide in 2020?
