CHEYENNE WELLS, Colo. — A man is in custody after a barricade situation in Cheyenne Wells in southeast Colorado.

The man was barricaded inside a home for several hours Wednesday after shots were fired, the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office said.

Some residents received a code red alert and were told to shelter in place.

About 6:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a report of a gunshot into a home on Highway 40.

The sheriff responded and at about 8:45 a.m. encountered the suspect, who was armed and fired at least one shot.

About 5 p.m., the sheriff’s office said the situation was resolved peacefully and the suspect was in custody. The code red alert was lifted.

There were no known fatalities or injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

Cheyenne Wells is about 180 miles southeast of Denver near the Kansas border.
