UPDATE: Blue Bell ice cream licker posted $1,000 bond for jail release

PORT ARTHUR, Texas (KFDM) - UPDATE: The man caught on camera licking Blue Bell ice cream at a Walmart in Port Arthur has posted $1,000 bond and was released Friday morning from the Jefferson County Jail after he was booked in on criminal mischief charges. Jail staff say D'Adrien Anderson was booked just after 10 pm Thursday night. The Sheriff's Office sent us his book-in photo.

Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett set the $1,000 bond and arraigned Anderson in jail Friday morning.

Investigators say they identified 24-year-old D'Adrien Anderson from a social media video posted online. It shows him removing a container of Blue Bell ice cream Monday night from the refrigerated section of the Walmart on Twin City Highway in Port Arthur and licking it.

The video ends with him putting it back in the refrigerated section but Walmart says surveillance video shows he removed the same carton before any customer could purchase it and bought the same tub himself.

Still, Jefferson County District Attorney Bob Wortham tells KFDM/Fox 4 News the store lost money because it had to replace ice cream and the charges stem from that monetary loss and the cost of the law enforcement investigation.

If convicted of the Class A Misdemeanor, Anderson could face up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000.

We spoke with D.A. Bob Wortham tonight.

"This guy loves publicity even if it's for the wrong reason," said Wortham. "That can lead to bigger and worse things. If we're going to save this guy, we have to do it with this case or he's over the hill."

From Port Arthur Police Department - On 8-22-2019 Investigators of the Port Arthur Police Department submitted a case for Class A Criminal Mischief to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

This incident occurred at the Walmart Super Center located at 4999 Twin City Hwy.

Investigators identified the suspect from a social media video that was posted online.

The video shows the Suspect removing a container of ice cream and eating the product from the container.

Suspect was then observed to place the container back on the shelve and close the refrigerated door.

The charge of Class A Criminal Mischief is a result of the monetary loss incurred by Walmart due to the suspect's actions.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of D’Adrien Anderson, 24, for this incident.
