FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney says last Monday’s “directive” approved by city commissioners that encourages people to wear face masks in public will be back before city commissioners at next week’s meeting. The mayor says “clarification” and more public input is needed.
Mahoney says the directive is confusing and he has asked City Attorney Erik Johnson to re-draft what he calls a “reasonable directive” and also allow public discussion on the issue.
The mayor says prior to last week’s decision, he and commissioners were inundated with emails, split about 50-50, for and against the mask directive for a variety of reasons. Some argued science, some argued politics. Fargo’s mask directive is not mandatory as is the case in Minnesota.
Commissioners did approve a mandate requiring masks to be worn on city buses which took effect Monday. Another mandate requires masks to be worn in city buildings and for some city businesses.
