FARGO (KFGO) – There’s a new twist to the decades-long rivalry between the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers. ESPN will shine its spotlight on the rivalry in September, thanks to some help from a feud involving Fargo radio station Y-94 FM and Green Bay radio station WIXX.
The co-hosts of Y-94 FM’s “Morning Playhouse” took exception after they learned that WIXX censored a portion of the song “Truth Hurts” by Lizzo, a Minneapolis native, who sings about a member of the Vikings.
”We realized something about Vikings fans. We are just truly more American and patriotic than Packers fans” according to Y-94 personality Zero. “We believe in freedom of speech. We would never do that to a song. I can’t say that for Packers fans. It’s truly pathetic. They’re basically Canadian.”
“We took out all the lines that say “new man on the Minnesota Vikings.” Why? Because we thought it would be fun to watch them get all upset about it. And they did!” WIXX’s Otis Day said.
An ESPN production crew spent several hours conducting interviews for the segment at Y-94’s studios in Fargo.
ESPN says the network plans to broadcast the feature on Sept. 15, just prior to the Vikings/Packers game at Lambeau Field.
