Cheyenne's property crime rate continues to go down, according to police.

Officer Kevin Malatesta says police investigated six fewer theft from motor vehicle cases and six fewer stolen vehicle cases last month than they did in November 2018.

"Last year we had 25 vehicle burglaries in November, this year we had 19 in November," said Malatesta. "Our stolen vehicles we had 20 last year and 14 this year."

Malatesta says the department is also seeing fewer burglaries than they did a year ago.

"Property crime is definitely going down," he said. "Looking at the trend for the year, it looks like we're down in every category."

Police this year have been fully investigating property crimes, mapping crime trends and proactively looking for property crime offenders as part of their goal to reduce the city's property crime rate, which was 45 percent above the national average last year.
