A 31-year-old Texas man is facing a federal sex trafficking charge after allegedly transporting a young woman to Cheyenne to engage in prostitution.

Keith Anthony Crawford made his initial appearance before U.S. District Court Judge Kelly H. Rankin Monday.

According to a criminal complaint, officers with the Cheyenne Police Department and the Laramie County Sheriffs Office made contact with Crawford on July 18 after an undercover detective responding to an online ad for prostitution met with a woman at the Red Lion Hotel.

The woman reportedly told investigators that she was from Texas and was in Cheyenne for the purposes of prostitution.

She also stated that she was staying in the hotel alone, but investigators found the debit card Crawford used to book the hotel as well as a duffel bag containing men's clothes in her room.

They also located paperwork and prescription medications with the woman's name on them in Crawford's car.

Rankin set Crawford's preliminary and detention hearings for Aug. 1 at 9 a.m.

If convicted, Crawford could face 10 years in prison.
