October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Salt Lake City Police Department is showing their support for those who've been affected by the disease.

Throughout the month, Salt Lake City Police officers are wearing a specially designed badge with the pink cancer ribbon that symbolizes breast cancer. The department stated on Twitter that its officers will wear the badges not only in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but also to honor all those affected by it.

"This month we authorized officers to wear their Breast Cancer Awareness badge," Salt Lake City Police tweeted. "We not only wanted to recognize [of] breast cancer awareness month but also honor all the members of our department who have been affected by breast cancer. #breastcancerawareness"

Breast Cancer Awareness Month was founded in October 1985 as an annual and international health campaign intended to educate people about the importance of early screening and testing for breast cancer, along with raising funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.
