Goa Labour Min urges industry associations, companies to provide data to know the actual status of unemployment

Panaji, June 15 (KNN) The Minister for Labour and Employment, Rohan Khaunte has requested the industry associations and companies to provide the data required to the labour and employment department.

He made the request during the launch of an industry-government interaction session on concerns of employment.

Interacting with media, Khaunte said, ‘’A special team will be formed in upcoming weeks to gather the data from industries operating in the state."

To get the inputs for employment policy and know the concerns the minister interacted with 30 companies here.

He said that the collected data will help the government to understand the actual unemployment status of the state and getting this data has been a challenge, he said.

Very few private sector companies have come forward and submitted the data, he added.

With regard to collection of data,  Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) has been deployed by the department of labour and employment as the nodal agency to obtain and collect the required employment data.

To restrain the companies were not the aim of government but to get the actual figure of unemployment in the state, Minister said.

He stated "Without knowing the place of unemployment and its level, the government is unable to know what
positions are and how many are required by the companies."

"We have asked the data for the same concern. In upcoming days special teams have been formed to go to industries and get the data’’, he added further. (KNN/VS)
