DENVER – A bill that would allow sports betting in Colorado has cleared its first hurdle.

The House Finance Committee passed the bi-partisan bill Monday on a nine to one vote.

Now, the bill heads to the appropriations committee. If the governor signs the bill, voters would have to approve it in November.

The bill would allow sports betting in Cripple Creek, Blackhawk, and Central City, where legalized gambling already exists.

The state would collect a ten percent tax on all net proceeds to fund such things as a statewide water plan, conservation, agriculture and recreation projects.
