The deadline for Move Oregon’s Border to acquire the required number of signatures has come and gone.

And it appears the movement failed to get the needed support for most of the areas they were trying to take to Idaho.

The group needed to have the signatures by August 5.

They met their goal in three of fifteen counties, those being Jefferson, Union, and Wallowa.

In Douglas County, they missed their mark by just 30 signatures.

But that still wouldn’t have been enough, according to the group’s president, Mike McCarter.

"Look at Douglas County, which was 98%," he said, "the figure that we usually work with is a minimum of 130%, because they throw out a chunk of signatures."

Their lawsuit to get a reduction of signatures or a time extension was denied last month.

But they filed a second motion immediately after, and are still waiting for the judge’s ruling.

"I was on a conference call with the governor’s attorneys yesterday," McCarter said, "and they wanted me to dismiss the case because they felt we didn’t have enough information. And I refused."

McCarter says he wants to get the measure on November ballots because of the large turnout for presidential elections.

Under Oregon law, a petition of this type has a circulation period of about two years.

McCarter says he is fine with using this year's signatures for future elections.
