One person is dead after a house fire in Jefferson City.

Fire crews were called out to the 1000 block of Laurel Drive at 6:12pm, Sunday.

When they got to the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames showing from the front and side of the house.

Firefighters found one person inside the home. That person later died at the hospital from their injuries.

Crews got the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

They were on the scene of the fire for several hours, trying to locate the origin of the fire. The cause was ruled accidental. It started in or around the fire place. An original theory that the fire started in the kitchen was found to not be true.
