Many parents are contemplating the hard decision on how their children will receive schooling this year.

For some in Jefferson City, they have chosen to try out homeschooling, with the decision coming from the virtual program not meeting their personal needs.

Amber Burnett, a mother of two, said they decided homeschooling would be the best option.

"There was a lot of schedule time, check-in here, be on the computer here," Burnett said. "I don't mind her being on the computer some, but I'd rather pen and paper."

Burnett is the mother of a child in kindergarten and one that would attend private preschool.

"I've decided to build my own curriculum so I've ordered all the books, this room I'm in right now, I've turned from a bedroom to a school room," Burnett said.

She said she isn't the only one who is turning to this option.

Burnett started a group with other moms to help in collaborating virtual classes for the students together. She said the main reason for not considering an in-person option, boils down to keeping their entire family safe.

"We're going to try... show and tell and keep the kids interacted, so they have friends, but they're not face to face with friends being exposed to anything," Burnett said.
