A Jefferson City couple charged one year ago with child abuse and child endangerment have had their trials scheduled.

Daniel and Christina Dubey were accused of threatening juvenile girls and forcing them to live an underwhelming lifestyle.

A probable cause document stated law enforcement was notified of two small girls in the median of U.S. Highway 54 at 5:20 a.m. on Oct. 10, 2018. Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper Ashley Klempke said the girls were not wearing shoes and their clothes were wet from the rain. The children said they ran away from home and were on their way to Texas. The Dubey couple were parents for one of the girls, while the other child said her parents lived in Texas, but she had been taken away from them.

The children said Daniel and Christina Dubey threatened the children that if they returned, they would be beaten or killed. The children said they were not given beds, blankets or pillows on which to sleep, but merely had to sleep on the bare floor. The state trooper learned four other children were living at the home.

Child services was granted temporary custody of the girls, who were both reported to have suffered injuries. The girls said they were beaten with a belt, spoons and a spatula.

The children said Daniel Dubey was the parent to fault for the abuse, but Christina would watch it happen.

The couple has since been released on bond. They were charged by a special prosecutor with three counts of child abuse and two counts of first-degree child endangerment.

A pre-trial court hearing has been set for the Dubey couple on Jan. 8, 2020. The trial dates have been scheduled from Jan. 14-17. 2020.

The two suspects have been given a no-contact order with the children, according to online court records.
