COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man who's wanted in Minnesota has been arrested after going on a carjacking spree that started in Colorado Springs. Police say the suspect carjacked one person but then was apprehended by a civilian while attempting a second carjacking.

The incident began Friday morning just before 7 a.m. when Colorado Springs Police responded to a reported shooting on Gold Camp Road. At the scene, officers spoke with the man who had called the police but found no evidence of a shooting. Then, while officers were interviewing him, he suddenly got in his vehicle and fled.

About an hour later, that same man crashed his vehicle on I-25 near mile marker 139. Police say a concerned citizen went to check on him, which is when the suspect carjacked their vehicle and took off.

Around 8:40 a.m., the suspect crashed again at Highway 115 and Wilderness Road. He got out of the vehicle and tried to carjack another passerby. However, the would-be second victim was instead able to detain him until Colorado State troopers arrived.

The suspect was finally taken into custody without further incident.

The man, identified as 50-year-old Stanward Swanson, was found to have an extraditable warrant out of Minnesota, according to CSPD. Police didn't say what crimes he's wanted for in Minnesota.
