Suspect tries to rob Colorado Springs bank, lies about having a bomb

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Police say a suspect is in his custody after he tried to rob a bank Friday morning. According to police records, the suspect threatened bank tellers and demanded cash, saying he had a bomb.

Colorado Springs Police responded to the bank on S. Nevada Avenue just after 10:45 a.m. They found the suspect in the lobby and took him into custody without incident.

Officers discovered he didn't have any type of explosive on him in reality, and wasn't able to steal any money from the bank.

Police identified the suspect as 49-year-old Christopher Govaerts. He's now facing a charge of attempted aggravated robbery.
