Dozens of local singers will be singing at the American Cemetery at Normandy on July 4 to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Allied Invasion of Normandy.

The Cuesta Concord Chorus features 52 singers, ranging in age from 13 to 82.

They will go on a mini-tour across Europe with four scheduled concerts in London, and a performance in the Pump Rooms in Bath. The group will then travel by ferry from Southampton to Caen.

The chorus is set to sing a piece selected by Dr. Ron Kean. It will feature a poem called “Normandy” by Cyril Crain set to familiar songs such as the French, American and Canadian National Anthems, Taps and Simple Gifts. Crain was a soldier at Normandy and received major recognition for his work globally.

Singers have also been preparing for their trip by gathering names of veterans and active serving military members to read at the concert. The chorus has collected more than 200 names at this time.

The group will perform at the concert at Normandy on July 4 at 6 a.m. PST. They plan to host a live stream of the performance on the group’s Facebook page.
