PHOENIX – Drivers in all corners of the Phoenix area will have to contend with freeway closures this weekend because of improvement projects, the Arizona Department of Transportation warned.

In the West Valley, eastbound Interstate 10 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange work.

The eastbound on-ramps at 91st, 83rd, 79th and 75th avenues will also be out of commission at that time.

Over in north Scottsdale, the eastbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be closed from Scottsdale Road to Hayden Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday as crews work on a freeway widening project. The eastbound on-ramps at 56th and 64th streets will also be closed.

Due south, westbound Loop 202/Pecos Road will be closed for pavement work from I-10 to 32nd Street in Ahwatukee from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. The ramps from I-10 to westbound Loop 202 will also be closed.

Don’t think north Phoenix is escaping the detours.

First, southbound I-17 will be closed between Happy Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday for bridge work. Add a closure of the southbound I-17 on-ramp at Jomax Road during that time.

Then, northbound I-17, along with the on-ramp at Deer Valley Road, will be closed in that same stretch from 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.

There will also be several surface street restrictions related to freeway construction.

In north Phoenix, traffic on 16th Street will be blocked in both directions under the Loop 101 from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

In the East Valley, Chandler Boulevard will be closed in both directions at Loop 101 from 11:45 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday as part of a freeway widening project.
