PHOENIX — As the Valley continues to endure a summer of record-breaking temperatures, an excessive heat warning has been issued for the Phoenix area starting Wednesday.

Phoenix and surrounding areas are expected to see a high temperature of 111 degrees, the National Weather Service said Monday.

Tuesday is forecast to be the coolest day of the week with a high of 110 degrees. High temperatures of at least 113 degrees are then expected for Phoenix from Thursday through at least Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

An excessive heat warning had been in effect for the Phoenix area from Sunday at 9 a.m. until Monday at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Phoenix tied a record from 2011 for 33 days in a calendar year with temperatures at or above 110 degrees.

The average temperature in Phoenix during July was 99 degrees, which made it the hottest month in the city’s history.

During periods of extreme heat, experts advise people to stay hydrated, limit the amount of time outside, try to stay inside air conditioned buildings and remember to check on elderly family members and neighbors.

People should also watch for warning signs of heat-related illnesses, which can include heavy sweating, muscle cramps, weakness, headache and nausea.
