The people living in the unit hit with gunfire around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on Southeast Ankeny didn't even know they were victims until they got up the next morning.

No one was hurt, but one neighbor who got a look inside the four-plex says the bullets hit the car in the driveway and went through the garage into the back side of the house.

"At least one bullet went through the garage, into the living room, to the back side of the house by the patio door," said Selena Yazzolino, who called 911 after she heard the shots. "I was shocked to see how far and how many walls it went through. If anybody had been walking through, they would have gotten hit."

Gresham police don't have any suspects at this time, but did find bullet casings on the ground outside the house, and have some eyewitness accounts to follow up on.

"I believe it was a white, small car, came by real quick," said Frank Lieble, who lives a few houses away and was letting his dog out when he saw a car zip by.

"And just a couple of seconds after it passed, I heard four shots, and then I heard an acceleration. By the time I got out to the street to see what’s going on, it was gone."

Lieble and other neighbors say they heard four gunshots.

Lieble says Ankeny Street doesn't get much crime, not like the blocks surrounding it.

But the shooting leaves Yazzolino, who's been in the neighborhood since it was first built, on edge, especially when it comes to her 15-year-old twin boys.

"It's a little frightening. They walk the dogs when it gets cooler in the evening. It’s a little bothersome that they’re out walking around and there are random people driving by and shooting," she said.

Yazzolino doesn't think the people who live in the house, a young couple with a roommate, are the kind that would attract a targeted shooting.

"I think it was random. Those people, I don’t think they would have anything to do with that. They were oblivious to everything and didn’t have a clue, until they woke up," she said.
