BILLINGS-It was a night of celebration and honoring those helping kids.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yellowstone County held its “Feel the Love Gala and Awards Ceremony” on  Friday night.

The event, held at the Doubletree By Hilton hotel, raises about a third of the organization’s operating budget.

The gala recognized the Community Big and the High School Big.

The “Bigs” talked about the importance of mentoring children.

“You have influence on the lives of these students,” said Tye Brown, High School Big of the Year.  “It’s good to know you can make a change for the better.”

“If they see another adult in their life that they can look up to and that they love and that they can hang out with, that gives them encouragement throughout their life,” said Celina Reno, Community Big of the Year. “I think it’s a huge asset for them.”

“You turn a life around when they’re young, you never know,” said David Anderson, gala co-chair. “We could have the next president. We could have the next rocket scientist. God only knows.”

Yellowstone County District Judge Mary Jane Knisely was the keynote speaker at the gala.
