BILLINGS – The Montana Department of Transportation is advising those traveling to Red Lodge for the annual Beartooth Rally this weekend to be aware of road construction.
Construction is underway on a 1.6 mile stretch of Highway 212 in Roberts. Transportation officials said the road surface is still safe for motorcycle riders, but they could experience slight delays.
Officials said they do not expect delays to be any more than 10 minutes for travelers.
“We know how important this popular annual event is to the town of Red Lodge and the region,” said Bill Felton, the agency’s project manager, in a press release. “We want them to know that the construction in Roberts shouldn’t disrupt the flow of biker and general traffic to the festivities.”
Despite limited expected delays, MDT is providing alternate routes for those who wish to avoid the construction areas:
The junction with Montana Hwy 310 in Rockvale. Motorcyclists could take a left in Rockvale to get onto Hwy 310 going south. Then south of Bridger, they will take a right onto Hwy 308 in Belfry heading west to Red Lodge. Please note that there is chip-sealing work being performed on Hwy 310 from Bearcreek to Red Lodge.
The junction with Montana Hwy 421 just south of Joliet. Motorcyclists could take a right onto Montana Hwy 421 just south of Joliet and head northwest to Columbus. From Columbus they would get onto to Montana Hwy 78 and head south to Red Lodge. There is significant roadwork south of Roscoe on Hwy 78 that includes dirt roads and gravel.
The project is expected to be complete this November.
