The Cross Plains Buffaloes beat Menard 34-7 in the first game of the season and a sophomore played a huge role in the victory.

Running back and corner back Cason Allen rushed for two touchdowns, had a receiving touchdown and ran an interception back for a touchdown all in one game.

Making him the Abilene Teacher's Federal Credit Union Player of the Week.

"It just feels really good cause I don't know first time I've played offense like that, full offense and defense, and first time I made all those touchdowns. It just feels awesome," said Allen.

Allen was All-Big Country Newcomer of the Year as a freshman and now at the start of his sophomore season, he's picking up where he left off.

"He's the best freshman I've ever coached. I've never started a freshman day one, he started day one for us. But last year we didn't play him much on offense, just didn't want overload him just didn't want to overwhelm him as a freshman and this year, we put it on him," said Head Coach Daniel Purvis

Cason's teammates appreciate having someone with his talent on their team.

"It takes a lot of weight off your shoulders knowing that these young guys havethe ability to step up and do their job, as long as they can do that then we're going to be solid," said senior quarterback Caleb Hernandez.

The Buffaloes will travel to Ranger for their week two match-up, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
