TOPEKA, Kan. (Storyful) - A male Sumatran tiger attacked and injured a keeper at Topeka Zoo in Kansas on Saturday, officials said.
City of Topeka spokesperson Molly Hadfield said the keeper was alert and awake when they were taken to the hospital.
The zoo was open at the time and some people witnessed the attack, Hadfield said.
The tiger, named Sanjiv, arrived at the Topeka Zoo in August 2017 and was born at Zoo Atlanta, according to the zoo’s Facebook page.
The following footage shows Sanjiv on August 10, 2017, the day after his arrival at the zoo.
Sanjiv has fathered four cubs with female Sumatran tiger Jingga in October 2018, local media reported.
