KEIZER, Ore. – A man fired a round into a neighboring apartment in Keizer last Thursday, where a couple and their four-year-old son were sitting in the livingroom.

The shooter, a 22-year-old man, told Keizer Police he was “practicing drawing a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol from his holster” and thought the gun was loaded with a dummy round.

While drawing, he fired a shot from the upstairs bedroom of his apartment, and the bullet went out a window, traveled through the wall of a neighboring apartment and into the livingroom.

No one was injured by the gunfire.

Authorities say the neighbors were in the room at the time with their young son.

Investigators said the round ricocheted across the apartment’s wall before being embedded about seven feet above the floor.

The case is being forwarded to Marion County District Attorney’s office for consideration of criminal charges, police officials said.
