The Springdale Police Department executed search warrants at two convenience stores, alleging they operated illegal gambling houses.

The warrants were executed at Kings Korner at 2808 W. Huntsville and Kings Xpress at 2513 N. Thompson, according to a news release sent by Lt. Jeff Taylor. Officers seized cash, 31 gambling machines, paper evidence and computer records.

One man, Mark Warren Calhoun, age 32, was given a felony citation in the case. The preliminary report form lists two counts of Accomplice to Keeping a Gambling House. He turned himself into jail and was released without bond.

People could enter the store during business hours and play casino-style slot machines, according to release. The players would win points on the machine, which they could redeem for cash at the front register.

Police were alerted to the slot machines after a victim reported being robbed after winning a large amount of cash at Kings Korner. Kings Korner has a separate room inside the store full of slot machines, according to the release.

“The owners of these businesses have been warned numerous times about Arkansas law, but have continued to operate and profit off these machines,” according to the release.”
