LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Sheriff Joe Lombardo was joined by public officials on Wednesday morning to open the new Summerlin Area Command.
The dedication of LVMPD’s 10th area command will be held at 11301 Redpoint Drive, west of the 215 Beltway between Summerlin Parkway and Far Hills Avenue.
Speakers at the dedication ceremony included Tom Warden Vice President of Community and Government Relations of Howard Hughes Corporation, city of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Councilwoman Victoria Seaman and Councilman Stavros Anthony. Clark County Commissioner Larry Brown and Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones will also speak, along with Kevin T. Orrock, President, Summerlin, The Howard Hughes Corporation.
The 24,000 square-foot area command actually began operations on Saturday, under the command of Captain Sasha Larkin, a Metro veteran of 21 years.
Its jurisdiction is bordered by West Warm Springs Road to the south, Durango Drive and North Rainbow Boulevard to the east, Cheyenne Avenue to the north and the edge of the Spring Mountains and Red Rock Canyon to the west.
The newly opened area command has been part of Summerlin’s Master Plan for years. It became a reality after the Howard Hughes Corporation provided land to build the facility and underwrote its design and construction. The area command will be staffed with 16 civilians and 166 commissioned officers that will patrol 70 square miles. Residents within the coverage area should notice faster response times on calls for service. The new area command creates a convenient location for residents to file crime reports, attend First Tuesday community meetings and connect with the LVMPD.
The substation houses a community-oriented policing squad for community outreach, and Flex squads to address ongoing problems or issues. Detective squads are in-house to conduct investigations quickly. LVMPD officers will be visible in the entertainment and shopping district of Downtown Summerlin and at community gatherings.
