A motorcycle crash in Wanamingo Township took the life of an Arlington man. Just before 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon, an SUV driven by 40 year old Brent Diderrich of Wanamingo, was northbound on highway 57 approaching Highway 52. A Harley Davidson, ridden by 25 year old Nolan Osbourne, was southbound on highway 52. According to the State Patro, the vehicles made contact in the southbound lane of highway 52 around 415th street. Osbourne died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet. Diderrich was uninjured.

Crash with semi sends one via Air Care

A crash on Hwy 19 near Ebel Way in Northfield early Friday afternoon involved a semi. The call went out for aircare when, according to the State Patrol, an SUV, driven by 51 year old Lean Crowley of Rosemount, traveling eastbound on Highway 19 collided with a Freightliner semi driven by 41 year old Melvin Hill of Georgia. Gratefully, none of the injuries suffered were life-threatening but Crowley was taken to North Memorial Hospital by Air Care. Hill was treated in the Northfield Emergency room. Traffic was backed up for some time.

Current 2020 school board

There are four open spots on the Northfield School Board. Noel Stratmoen and Amy Goerwitz announced their bid for re-election. Ellen Iverson and Rob Hardy will not seek re-election. There are five challengers to those seats. Corey Butler, Robert Coleman, Claudia Gonzalez-George, Karen Jensen and Eric Lundin. We’ll have much more on the candidates as the November elections approach. There is no Primary for the school board positions. However, tomorrow is Primary for Mayor of Northfield. We have an Election Guide on our website. Look in the upper left hand corner. Click on that and you’ll find information and interviews with the Mayoral candidates and Joe Adamek who is running for Rice Co. District 1 Commissioner. You’ll also find all the information you need on registering to vote, where to vote and more. Polls are open 7am to 8pm.

Nfld DMV open full hours

Starting today, Northfield Motor Vehicle Services staff will resume service to walk-in customers from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with no interruption. The press release notes that people don’t need to rush to renew their driver’s license. Minnesota law automatically extends the expiration of any driver’s license, ID card or permit that would have expired during COVID-19 peacetime emergency to the month after the peacetime emergency ends. Currently that’s August 12th which means people have until September 30th to renew. However, Walz will likely extend his powers for another 30 days. The deadline to obtain a Real ID has been moved to October 1st, 2021 and the criteria for identification proof was broadened. All pandemic protocols must be followed when you go to the DMV.
